cClub One joins five other clubs to support Rotary District 5450 in appreciation of Jefferson County Foster Parents  (other clubs: Conifer, Evergreen, Golden, Lakewood Foothills, Arvada Sunrise)

Foster Parents from Jefferson County, Colorado, gathered at Mt. Vernon Country Club for an appreciation dinner on Saturday, May 3.  Although the dinner is an annual event, funds for it had been cut from the county budget.

Six district Rotary Clubs joined hands to ensure the deserving foster parents received the best dinner possible.  A record 165 people attended, including over 140 foster parents, case workers, county representatives and Rotary representatives.

Rotary clubs became aware of the need for a sponsor, a coordinator, and a location only 6 weeks prior to the event.  Not only was the dinner in jeopardy, the timing couldn’t have been worse.  Jefferson County currently has over 600 children in need of homes.  At the same time, the number of foster homes available was on the decline.  A real concern existed for retention and appreciation of current foster families.

Jill Deem of the Rotary Club of Conifer coordinated the event and worked with the Rotary Clubs for sponsorship.  “When you ask Rotarians to pull together for a worthy cause, it just happens”, said Jill who was not surprised by the great Rotary support with such short notice.

Each sponsoring club received a commendation from Jefferson County.  Pictured below are Adele Emerson-Darrow (Golden), Ben Allen (Evergreen), Jill Deem (Conifer), David Wiechman (Lakewood-Foothills), John Dahl (eClub One), and Mat Matson (District Governor Elect).  Not pictured is Jo Schofield (Arvada Sunrise).
