January 2012 – Rotary eClub One President’s Message

Celebrating 10 Years of Service
on the eFrontier!”

Dear Friends!

For a moment, think back to the turn of this century…

This was a defining time because it marked the start of a new millennium. Remember when “Y2K” was the new buzz word as we approached the Year 2000? In simple terms, “Y2K” referenced a potential problem with digital documentation that resulted from the practice of abbreviating a four-digit year to two digits. In the end our “Y2K” fears were relieved, because advances in computer technology overcame these obstacles.

But this new millennium also found many Rotarians busier than ever before. Traveling for job responsibilities increasingly became the norm. As a result, many Rotarians were finding it difficult to make their weekly meetings in the traditional format. Simultaneously these busy Rotarians were also relying more on the internet for information. Weighing the impact of these changes… the Rotary Club of Boulder, Colorado decided to embark on a new “frontier” to unite

Rotarians who could not make weekly “terra club” meetings.

After many long months of planning by our friends in Boulder CO, Rotary eClub One was born in 2002, as part of a pilot program under the direction of RI and District #5450.  The focus of this new eClub model was to be “service”. Since these early days, our members have networked weekly, on our www.rotaryeclubone.org   website… which was designed to facilitate discussion and build relationships. As a club, we have been united in our giving for international service and as well as disaster relief. Individually we seek to be the “hands and feet” for local service by supporting Community Service projects in our own backyards. Ten years later… we are still dedicated to service! And we are still seeking growth opportunities to enhance the fabric of our membership!

In 2012, our theme will be… “Celebrating 10 Years of Service on the eFrontier!”

As the President of Rotary eClub One, I invite you to join us as we travel “Back to Boulder” for our special Anniversary Dinner on April 25, 2012. Details on the dinner will be posted to our website by the week of February 6, 2012. Please join us…

Together in Celebration!

Tom

Program Comments

"Being able to make up meetings on the eclub has helped me to keep perfect attendance for over 46 years. I recently had open-heart surgery and have been able to make up meetings on the eclub. Thanks - Robert"

"I am sure that the majority of Rotarians are unaware of the scope of  Rotary eClub One's programs. I learn more about Rotary in an hour or two at this site than I do in 12 months at Rotary meetings."

About his voluntary contribution Rotarian Bob wrote, "If I had to drive 30 miles either way to make up and paid for a meal, you have 'the best deal in town'."

Rotary eClub One is happy to play a part in helping to keep a Rotarian connected, informed and inspired. Enjoy your visit and come again soon
